CM Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset Review

We can not stream our reviews or results directly into your brain to enjoy the sound. So we can give you, of course, only subjective impressions that are always tied to the personal feeling of the tester.

Firstly, let me tell you that there are many settings to adjust the sound of the Sirus 5.1 to personal wishes. You can select a bass-heavy setting, in which even a pony sounds like an old grizzly bear. But you also can also set the mid and high ranges to work out what makes a good impression for example in the music playback.

Especially when it comes to 5.1 sound you are very dependent on the software or support of the Games. The games which have a poor implementation, are not really supporting this true surround sound feeling.

Sound test in practice

We tested three more or less recent games that will help to explain you the surround implementation of their manufacturers.

Let’s start with the well known Armed Assault 3, short ArmA 3. With the standard settings of the Sirus 5.1 software there was no surround sound during the game. Only the difference between left and right could be determined.

But through the activation of 7.1 Modulation there was a perfect surround sound hearable inside ther game. Precise localization of the sound source was possible and even facilitated the determination of sniper nests.

The second game is a title of the Call of Duty Series, CoD Ghosts. Unfortunately, there was no 5.1 surround sound even with the 7.1 modulation inside the game. Locating an enemy was just a clever “left-right evaluation” the gamer need to do, and no real surround sound.

But let us come now to the last game, which embodies exactly what a good 5.1 headset as the Sirus need:A perfect implementation!

We are talking about the title Bioshock:Infinite. As if you were right inside the game. If you close your eyes, you can locate exactly when turning the character, where a person or any opponents are. Airships fly past one and you get the feeling as if they were really flying through the room – Awesome !

Microphone test in practice

Now we’ve come to the microphone we must not neglect. For it is one of the main reasons why you made the decision for a headset and not to choose simple headphones. We can now, however, offer you more than just personal impressions.

We tested the headset with the direct recording of Windows 7 as well as with the popular TeamSpeak3.

Here we have provided sound examples for you:

Wearing comfort

Despite the large body, the Sirus is quite comfortable to wear. Even during long games the moderate weight of about 400 grams does not have a negative impact. The adjustable strap is suitable for large heads.
