The Fosi Audio K7 DAC/Amp combines many connections, applications and different modes in one compact device. Even on its unbalanced output, it can supply common magnetostats with sufficient power and everyday headphones with dynamic drivers anyway.
Due to the AKM chip used, it seems as if Fosi Audio, like Monoprice or Topping, is able to make the mid frequencies in particular shine with clarity, while the bass is neither particularly warm nor powerful. If you take this into account, you can use the equalizer, for example, or use headphones with a stronger emphasis in the upper bass range anyway. The precision of hi-hats and shrill flutes may even delight some users!
In terms of usability, a lot of information is squeezed onto the small screen or you have to switch back and forth using the various buttons. This is somewhat impractical. The workmanship could also be a little better with regard to the controls and the glued-on feet. The casing itself, on the other hand, looks very robust.
In view of the high prices for powerful DACs and dedicated amplifiers, Fosi Audio is definitely catering to a group of people who want to achieve at least an audibly better experience than with the computer’s onboard sound. The Fosi K7 can close this gap and was able to convince us with its overall result and wide range of connections, as it supports everything from USB-C to a digital coax input and an optical input through to Bluetooth connectivity.
