Acasis EC-3901 Review

Result and general impression …

The Acasis M.2 NVMe 4-Bay RAID SSD Thunderbolt 4 enclosure makes a very high-quality impression and has nothing to hide on the desktop.

The performance for both writing and reading data is in line with what you can expect from a Thunderbolt 4 connection. The price-performance ratio is reasonable from our point of view. The form factor is also quite good for up to four SSDs. The device takes up little space, especially due to its small footprint when standing upright.

The assembly and installation of the SSDs requires no tools and is therefore very user-friendly.

What we don’t like, however, is the insecure mounting of the SSDs in the enclosure. Frequent conversion or replacement of the SSDs is no fun here, especially when working with the slightly sticky thermal pads. Unfortunately, mobile use with frequent transportation of the enclosure also poses a certain risk. The manufacturer should definitely improve this in the next device version. However, once the SSDs have been installed and the enclosure is only used stationary, users can live with the limitations.

The active fan is a necessary evil with four SSDs, but here too, a slightly larger fan that runs at a lower speed would be much better. If the device is placed on the desk or at least close to the computer, the volume and also the pitch of the fan is borderline. If you need a quiet working environment, you will probably have to take additional measures to “protect against noise”.
