The Cougar Spettro has an understated yet angular exterior and impresses with its compact design. When folded up, it becomes a mobile companion that can also be used with a desktop PC without a Bluetooth module thanks to its long audio cable.
The design appears optimal, as the model fits snugly around the ears and does not cause discomfort anywhere. The headband is padded and only exerts slight pressure. While Cougar excels over other products in terms of design, it falls short in sound quality. When used with a cable, harsh noises in the mid-frequency range are not particularly pleasant. The spatial depth in the soundstage does little to help. When ANC is activated, the bass comes through more strongly, while the spatial potential is reduced. The sound is slightly more balanced when Bluetooth is used instead of the cable.
As a result, we have a clear recommendation with regard to sound: Users of desktop computers without Bluetooth will certainly find a better alternative (despite the long cable). Music listeners with smartphones, tablets, or Bluetooth-enabled PCs can go for the Cougar Spettro with active noise cancellation. The compact and rather inconspicuous design of the model also contributes to this recommendation.
