Today on OCinside.de we’re taking a look at a USB-C retro docking station from Wokyis for the Mac mini or PC, which not only has many additional ports and an NVMe SSD slot, but also turns the Mac mini into a small Macintosh in the design of the old Apple computers from the late 80s. And with a functioning display!
If you want to equip your Mac mini with more connections and more hard disk space, you can choose from a variety of docking solutions. However, the Wokyis Retro Docking Station for Mac mini M4/M4 Pro offers a few special solutions, which we take a closer look at in this test.
At this point, we would like to reiterate that this is a docking station that can be used not only for the Apple Mac mini M4, but also for other devices thanks to USB-C and even HDMI, as we will show later in the test.
Although the basic version of the Apple Mac Mini M4 offers a very inexpensive entry into the world of current Apple computers, the prices do go up quite considerably if you need more RAM and, above all, more hard disk space. Thanks to the fast Thunderbolt / USB-C connection, expansion is not a major problem and the selection of corresponding devices is also quite large. Solutions that adapt directly to the shape of the small computer are particularly practical.

Delivered in a white cardboard box with pictures and information on all sides.
On the front is a picture of the dock as it will later sit on the Mac Mini.

Let’s take a look at the packaging in which the Wokyis Mac mini M4 Dock was delivered. The packaging contains the device itself, well protected by a foam cover and a plastic bag.

If you take the dock out of the packaging, there is nothing else in the box, as the accessories are housed in the lower part of the case, which is closed by a flap. The accessories include a manual and a warranty card, two longer USB-C cables and a short USB-C cable. The latter is intended for connecting to the Mac Mini when the case is plugged in. But more on that later. Also included are two SSD thermal pads and a small screwdriver for SSD installation. A power supply unit is not included, even though operation with an external power supply (5V/3A via USB-C) is recommended, especially if a larger SSD is to be used.
