The Wokyi’s retro docking station for Mac mini M4/M4 Pro is a real eye-catcher on your desk!
The retro housing is fittingly reminiscent of the history of Apple computers and yet provides modern interfaces and an expansion of the hard disk space.
Those who only value efficiency and the smallest possible form factor will probably not be so happy with this device. There are other docks that are much more compact and offer similar functionality apart from the display and card reader.
The lack of a mounting bracket on the Mac Mini is not so nice. Since you always have to lift or tilt the Mac to turn it on, the lack of a mounting bracket is quite noticeable. You could use a 3D printer to print a small retaining clip, but it would be even better to have a way to turn on the Mac directly via the case.
The speed limitation due to the 10Gbps host connection actually bothered us less than expected in everyday use. If you don’t have to transfer or edit several hours of 8k videos every day, you’ll be able to cope well with almost 1GB/s on the external SSD.
The small display is quite practical for some applications, but is more of a nice extra that supports the retro look. It’s nice that it’s there.
All in all, we are very impressed with the Wokyis Mac mini M4 Dock. It looks good, offers everything you would expect from a USB-C dock and the screen makes it even more unique compared to other devices of this type.
Now we are looking forward to the 80Gbps device, which should bring further improvements such as a DisplayPort and a faster NVMe SSD connection.
