In just 5 steps, we were able to implement our optimizations in this AMD Ryzen 7000/9000 DDR5 RAM OC Instructions to increase performance in memory-sensitive tests by between 15% and 33%, and this does not require a high-performance memory kit with strictly selected chips.
Particularly noteworthy are the optimizations of the memory timings tREFI and tWR, which result in greater performance gains than activating the EXPO profile. In the end, we were able to almost completely exhaust the maximum achievable bandwidths for 6- and 8-core processors of the Ryzen 7000/9000 series and the memory latency was also reduced by 23% from 88.5 ns to 68 ns. The score in the 3D-Mark Time Spy CPU benchmark also increased by 15%, which is an impressive result. With an extreme amount of effort, improvements of just 1% were ultimately only possible.
The aim of this workshop was to show how much performance is perhaps still unnoticed in the PC and waiting to be released. The increase in memory performance will not be reflected in every application, but as is so often the case, the same applies here: It’s better to have than to need!
