Cooler Master MH670 Review

Practical testing …

First of all we would like to point out, as always with the Practical testing of headphones, that most of the impressions now conveyed are subjective and may be perceived differently by other people.

Wearing comfort …

When we put on the MH670, we immediately notice how light as a feather the two double-bearing ear cups move, and the headband is also so elastic that even after 2 hours of continuous wearing, there was no unpleasant feeling of pressure. This is where the Cooler Master MH670 can definitely score big points!

The especially soft padding on the ear cups and headband is also responsible for the pleasant wearing comfort. But not only the headphones are soft and flexible, also the included jack cable couldn’t be more flexible.

Due to the closed construction and the complete enclosure of the ears, almost no noise escapes to the outside, even when the volume is raised, whereby noise from outside is also shielded quite strongly.

Hearing test with jack cable …

First, we tested the MH670 via the jack cable connection with various music tracks on various laptops, PCs and smartphones, whereby we also checked the hands-free function on the smartphone. The voice reproduction is immediately convincing, but the trebles appear minimally muffled. The bass is clear and not spongy at all, but for 50mm loudspeakers a bit more restrained than expected. The intro of Michael Jackson’s Dirty Diana, for example, which is a low bass spectacle of the very first order, lacks some pressure. If we now start an action game, the same picture appears. The vocal intelligibility is excellent when Batman in the Arkham Trilogy eavesdrops on his opponents or listens to radio messages. But during the brilliant battle scenes or when Batman detonates the explosive gel, the headset should be able to be a little more dynamic to keep up with the action on screen.

That’s whining on a high level, but so easily give in to the Cooler Master MH670 gaming headset and we still haven’t beaten the …

Listening test via the wireless USB dongle …

Therefore, we immediately plug the wireless dongle into the USB port of the test PC and wait a few seconds until the adapter is automatically installed as an audio output device under Windows. After pressing the power button on the headset for several seconds, the wireless connection was already established. We now played the same tracks to the headset again, and the MH670 appeared in an even more airy and dynamic guise than before, and the maximum volume even exceeded that of the comparison headphones. The trebles, like the mids, were now reproduced absolutely clean and crystal-clear, and there was also a small improvement in the kick bass range, but for 50mm drivers that certain something was still missing at the bottom. So we activated the equalizer, which is deactivated by default in Windows, and raised the frequencies up to 120Hz a bit. We don’t make these settings in the Master Plus software because, for example, the 30Hz frequency band is not available there and we need that to get a lot of pressure out of the headphones.

With these settings, the Cooler Master MH670 showed us its full potential and played absolutely clear, detailed and emphatic from the deepest bass cellar to the limits of the listening area. Christina Aguilera’s voice now shone in all nuances in her dynamic spectacle The Right Man and no matter which piece of music the orchestra played in the background during the puzzle adventure game The Raven

… or how high we let the engine of our Ferrari cheer in Asseto Corsa, simply a dream!

Batman’s blasting gel explosions now also deflagrated with a good deal of pressure. In radio mode and after very small tweaks with the help of the Windows Equalizer, the Cooler Master MH670 now plays big and even at highest levels, which are only used for testing purposes, the speakers don’t tend to distort noticeably.

Can the integrated microphone keep up with that? In hot multiplayer COOP games you have to understand your fellow players well, in order not to lose valuable time due to communication problems. How clear the recording quality is over the microphone of the MH670, everyone can see for themselves in the following short recording example.

7.1 Virtual Surround Sound …

One feature remains to be checked. The virtual surround sound can be activated by pressing a button on the right auricle in radio mode. If the headphones are connected to the jack cable, the function is not available, which isn’t a drama either, as the artificial surround sound is limited to a minimal reverb effect and that the trebles are unnaturally raised. This leads one to believe that the sound is clearer, which is not the case. We see this feature as a nice gimmick, but if you like rich sound, you’re more likely to leave this effect mode disabled.

Battery …

The exact playing time in battery mode is hard to quantify, but it’s already several hours at high volume, thus no reason to complain and at least the headset can be charged in operation, whereby the provided USB charging cable with not even 1,5m length is unfortunately quite short. Cooler Master optimistically indicates up to 25 hours of play time in battery mode.

We now come to our Cooler Master MH670 conclusion …
