Crucial Ballistix Max RGB 32GB DDR4 4x 8GB DDR4-4000 RAM Review

Setup and test results …

Now we come to another important part of the review: The performance!

Testsystem …

The following ATX system was used as the test system:
Intel Core i9-7900X @ 4600 MHz at approx. 1.350 volts
Asus Rampage 6 Extreme X299 motherboard
ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi X8 8G OC graphic card inkl. Alphacool Eisblock Aurora water cooler

With the software Memtest86 the stability was checked and SiSoft Sandra Lite 2020 as well as AIDA64 was used as a benchmark program because it offers extensive setting options and a quick comparison of the results. The latest version of SiSoftware Sandra and AIDA64 can be found on ours Server for download and can be downloaded there at high speed. The CPU-Z download can also be found there.

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT @ DDR4-2800 benchmark …

The test system was previously equipped with 4x Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-2400, which were overclocked to 2800 MHz. With this we first draw reference values with which we will later compare the Crucial Ballistix Max RGB DDR4-4000.

Here is a screenshot of CPU-Z 1.92 at 1401.10 MHz / DDR4-2800 and 16-16-16-38 2T at 1.35 volts:

And the following timings are shown by CPU-Z.

Here is the result of the SiSoftware Sandra benchmark tests:

Frequency Timing Memory voltage RAM bandwidth integer B/F AVX512/512 Memory transaction throughput Memory latency
1401.10 MHz SPD/XMP 16-16-16-38 1.35 Volt 66 GB/s 6.66 MTPS 35.4 ns

Crucial Ballistix Max RGB DDR4-4000 dual channel benchmark …

Next, we are testing the Crucial Ballistix Max RGB DDR4-4000 modules (2x BLM8G4OC18U4BL or 1x BLM2k8G4OC18U4BL), but only 2 in dual channel mode, as this is more typical for the usual gaming PC or consumer motherboard.

Here is a screenshot of CPU-Z 1.92 at 2000.00 MHz / DDR4-4000 and 18-19-19-39 1T at 1.35 volts:

The Ballistix Max RGB RAM has yet to admit defeat to the Ballistix Sport LT, but it is impressive how much the Ballistix Max RGB can achieve in dual channel mode thanks to its high clock rate and thus achieve a throughput of approx. 75% compared to the Ballistix Sport LT Modules in Quad Channel mode!

Crucial Ballistix Max RGB DDR4-4000 quad channel benchmark …

Last but not least, we are of course also testing the Ballistix Max RGB with 4 modules in quad channel mode (4x BLM8G40C18U4BL or 2x BLM2k8G40C18U4BL).

In quad channel mode, the Crucial Ballistix Max RGB modules can of course really flex their muscles and achieve really great values :ocinside:

The heat spreaders do a good job and keep the RAM modules really pleasantly cool even during the bench session at just under 40 ° C, which we can read out easily and individually for each module thanks to the integrated temperature sensors and the Crucial “MOD” software.

As a further function, the “MOD” software also offers the option of reading out the JEDEC timings stored in the module …

… as well as the XMP values.

Last but not least, we will of course take a closer look at the RGB lighting :rgb:
