CPU Cooler Chart 2018

We have tested numerous coolers on OCinside.de during the last 18 years. Today we would like to present in the new CPU Cooler Chart 2018 a roundup with selected CPU coolers from AMD, Antec, Arctic, Cooler Master, Cryorig, and Noctua that have been tested on an AMD AM4 system. So you can quickly find the right air cooler or AIO water cooler for the AMD Socket AM4 PC and compare the test results.

AMD and Intel CPU Cooler Comparison Chart
Cooler for AMD Sockel TR4, AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2, FM2+, FM2, FM1, Intel LGA 2066, 2011-3, 2011, 1366, 1156, 1155, 1151, 1150, 775 CPUs

CPU cooler test setup …

The following configuration is used for the AM4 test system:
ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 motherboard
AMD A8-9600 Bristol Ridge Socket AM4 Quad Core APU (with Radeon R7 GPU) OPN: AD9600AGM44AB / AD9600AGABBOX @ 3.8 GHz with 1.4 Volt
Crucial 4GB DDR4-2400 RAM
Cooler Master MasterWatt 550W PSU
Cooler Master Test Bench v1.0

For the temperature measurements we used the SpeedFan Tool. The Prime 95 program used for approx. 100% processor load. The CPU’s peak temperature was always measured, i.e. the highest temperature the processor reached in the test with Prime95.

The coolers listed below were tested on the same system, so their results are comparable with each other. Of course, the results vary in other systems. However, this is by no means a problem, as the values should only be comparable with each other.

The ambient temperature during the measurements was approx. 21°C.

The coolers were tested with different fan speeds, whereby in this CPU cooler test result comparison 2018 we only presented the 60% and 100% speeds for a better overview.

The AMD Boxed Cooler, Arctic Freezer 12, Cooler Master MasterAir G100M, Cooler Master MasterAir MA410P, Cooler Master MasterAir MA610P, Cooler Master MasterAir MA620P, Cryorig H7, Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi and the Noctua NH-D15 are conventional air coolers.

The Antec K240 is a pre-filled all-in-one water cooler – so called AIO cooler – with integrated water pump and radiator.

CPU cooler test results …

In the following bar chart all tested combinations are listed and each divided into two measurement results: 100% fan speed (blue) and 60% fan speed (green) each with Prime95 at approx. 100% CPU load.

Here the full load temperature results are sorted alphabetically by company:

Now the results are sorted according to the best cooling result. The cooler with the best overall cooling result is listed above. Here you can see very nicely the different distribution of the cooling results at Prime95 full load, such as the very high temperature of the boxed cooler and the strong difference at full speed of the fan compared to the lower fan speed.

Here the full load temperature results are sorted according to the best cooling result:

Since not only the cooling performance is important for the purchase decision, but also the sound volume, we have shown the volume measurements in dB sorted by volume of the fans with maximum fan speed and with 60% of the speed in the following chart. At the top is the most silent cooler. By the way, you can listen to or watch a video with the fan volume on the “Test Setup and Results” page of each cooler review. Soon these coolers will also be added to the well-known interactive Fit for Fan guide with direct cooler sound samples.

Here are the volume measurements in dB sorted by fan volume:

And here again all temperature measurements with volume and speed are listed in the table comparison:

Cooler Master MasterAir MA410P 36 °C 41 dB 1974 rpm
Arctic Freezer 12 37 °C 37 dB 1896 rpm
AMD Boxed Cooler 47 °C 40.5 dB 1630 rpm
Cooler Master MasterAir G100M 52 °C 40 dB 2085 rpm

With a click on the respective cooler you get to the selected cooler test result with a summary of the overall impression, assembly, price and a CPU cooler audio sample or a video with sound sample and if necessary with a further video to the RGB effects of the fans. The CPU cooler reviews are several pages long and can be found in the Hardwaretest category. Furthermore, we offer here at OCinside.de also the well-known interactive Fit for Fan guide with direct cooler listening sample to find out which CPU cooler fits on which motherboard and how much space is available for the remaining components such as RAM and graphics card after installation.

Tip: In the interactive Fit for Fan tutorial you can try the CPU coolers virtually on the motherboard, missing coolers will be included in the next update.

In the next days another CPU cooler test comparison 2018 with Intel Core i5 processor with several AIO coolers and some air coolers will follow.

For a comparison with other coolers, take a look at our CPU cooler chart 2016 on the Intel Core i5 PC. Here is our CPU cooler comparison 2016, tested on an Intel Core i7 PC system. And here is again our CPU cooler chart with CPU coolers before 2016. A direct comparison to our previously tested coolers is however not possible here, since the test system has changed fundamentally in the meantime.
